Free Download Manager 3.9.3.1359

Free Download Manager Editor's Review

Downloading media is fast becoming one of the most popular things to do online. However often when it comes to finding the music or videos we want we have to waste time searching a number of different websites trying to find what you are looking for.

Free Download Manager is a free to use application that already has many people using it and its popularity is growing all the time. The main benefit of this piece of open-source software is the fact that you can download from multi remote servers so you don’t have to spend time trawling different sites and BitTorrents to try and find what you are looking for. It works in-conjunction with many browsers and different download websites which makes the whole thing easy to use and you should have no problem at all finding the download you want, whatever that may be.

Free Download Manager accelerates downloads by splitting files into sections and then downloading them simultaneously. As a result, download speeds can increase by up to 600%. Free Download Manager can also resume broken or suspended downloads so you don't have to start downloading from the beginning after an interruption. This is huge, especially if you've got a laptop and are at the local coffee shop downloading something and have to leave before it completes, for example.

Free Download Manager also allows you to download video from video sites, such as YouTube, Google Video, etc. and either save the video in its native .flv format or convert it to a more popular video format.

In addition, Free Download Manager allows you to: adjust traffic usage; to organize and schedule downloads; download video from video sites; download whole web sites with HTML Spider; operate the program remotely, via the internet, and more!

Pros: Speeds up downloads to enable you to get your download much quicker than normal as well as a reliable integration with Internet Explorer, Opera, Mozilla, FireFox, Google Chrome and Apple Safari.

Cons: Interfered with browser's download manager.

Conclusion: FDM is a great application. It was easy to install and use. However, at least on my system, it did interfere with IE9's download manager, which was frustrating. The video converter worked without any issue.  If you haven't upgraded to a browser with an integrated download manager, FDM is a great utility to have.
